Bank Investors
Support Your Community
MetaFund provides a Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) qualifying opportunity for banks to support their community through an Equity Equivalent Investment (EQ2).
What is an EQ2?
An Equity Equivalent Investment (EQ2) is a capital product specifically designed for nonprofit Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) like MetaFund that allows us to build our capital base without relying on charitable contributions. It is an interest-bearing, subordinated loan with a rolling maturity that is designed to meet the investment and lending tests required by the Community Reinvestment Act. Banks receive CRA credit for the investment. In addition, MetaFund’s bank investors are eligible to apply for an 18% cash award from the CDFI Fund of the U.S. Treasury Department through the Bank Enterprise Award (BEA) program. This incentive can significantly increase the yield on a MetaFund EQ2.
How MetaFund Supports Investors
MetaFund has a successful track record working with our bank EQ2 investors to improve their CRA performance, strengthen their Bank Enterprise Award application, and achieve significant community development outcomes in their markets.
We help create additional CRA loans. Not only is a MetaFund EQ2 fully CRA-qualifying, but we work with our bank investors to create additional CRA loan opportunities by providing credit enhancement to loans in distressed communities. Learn more about our Credit Enhancement efforts here.
We help banks through the BEA application. While BEA applicants must file their own applications, MetaFund guides our EQ2 investors through the BEA application process to maximize their chance of success. Learn more about the BEA Program from the CDFI Fund.
We help banks serve their community. MetaFund has worked alongside our member banks to create quality jobs, affordable housing, improved access to healthcare, and other community development outcomes. Learn more about our community development projects.
